Members of the ACS Committee on Economic and Professional Affairs (CEPA) would like to inform ACS members of an important piece of science legislation that expires this year. Here is a summary of the America Creating Opportunities to Meaningfully Promote Excellence in Technology, Education, and Science Act, more commonly known by the acronym the COMPETES Act. It was a key piece of highly bipartisan science legislation that first became law in 2007. We would like to distribute the summary to as many local section newsletters as possible.
Dr. Kathryn Louie's Councilor's Report from the last national meeting may be found here.
Dr. Kathryn Louie has updated the bylaws for the Permian Basin section so that they are more consistent with current ACS policies and procedures. The original bylaws may be read here. The proposed new bylaws may be read here. A detailed explanation of the changes in the bylaws, prepared by Dr. Louie, may be read here.
During the next officer election, we will also have a vote about the new bylaws as well, so make sure that you take a look at them some time in the next few weeks.
